Director's statement:
I see the film as a visual journey into terror – terror of the State, and terror of the
so-called terrorists themselves - but most of all, the terror of poverty, of every-day
indifference and of the omnipresent crime. The time in which the film is set (late 1980s) is key because Peru was in the midst of an unprecedented crisis; Hyper inflation, internal war between the military and Shining Path, the resurgence of guerrillas, generalized corruption in the government, etc. If the indigenous population is usually ignored, in this scenario, the kidnapping of an indigenous daughter would mean nothing, except to Pedro, a middle-aged journalist who resists seeing the case pass him by without at least making the headlines.
